grief

My heart hurts when I look at this drawing.

About 3 1/2 months into our court-ordered separation and no contact, my children’s grief at being apart from me was overwhelming.

Late one night, one of my daughters went into the bathroom of the home where she stayed.  Her pain and distress were so terrible that she sobbed uncontrollably for some time.  Her face became smeared with tears that practically choked her, even as they soaked her pajamas.

She could hardly breathe or see.

When she eventually calmed down, she opened her eyes and looked into her lap, surprised to find it covered with hair that had literally fallen out from her head as she sobbed.  The distress she felt was so intense.

Later, she drew this picture to express what happened.  It is a tangible memory for all of us.  We will never forget that time.
